ABOUT
I am Maya Matulessy (Maya Matu), 32, a self-taught photographer based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I use photography as a way to explore and document people, stories and cultures.
Through my work, I look for authentic stories and moments that show who people are and where they come from.
Studying Interior Consultancy in Utrecht further shaped my understanding of colour, contrast, space and composition. These qualities naturally found their way into my photographic practice, where observation and intuition play an important role.
Today, my work moves across different photographic genres, while remaining rooted in a documentary approach.
I am drawn to people, places and cultures, and to the stories that shape our sense of connection. Through my photography, I aim to make these stories visible and create space for different perspectives and ways of life.
